Field Trips at McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park

A misty forest trail at McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park winds through moss-covered rocks and tall pine trees, illuminated by soft rays of sunlight.

We are excited to welcome school groups at Burney Falls. Both docent-led and self-guided field trips are available. Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park at:

to check for availability and to schedule. We ask that schools schedule their trips at least 30 days in advance for regular field trips and at least 60 days in advance for blended learning options.

Please note that in order to schedule a school field trip at the park, the school must provide proof of liability insurance. We also ask that school groups have a ratio of at least 1 adult chaperone per 10 students.

Due to safety concerns and in an attempt to limit the impact on natural resources, we ask that schools limit group sizes visiting the waterfall to a maximum size of 20-30 students. Please call the park to discuss options for larger groups. Additionally, due to heavy park visitation during the summer months, we may be unable to accommodate school groups during the months of June through August. The best months for school visits are September-October and March-May.
