By late May it looked like California State Parks Week was off to a great start with 174 events planned! If you never got a chance to visit the website, you may still do so to view poster contest winners and honorable mentions. The poster contest, a new feature this year, drew significant interest from both educators and families.

With the tagline of “This is Where You Live,” this year’s events relied on the following themes for inspiration:

  • Care for Our Shared Lands
  • Celebrate Community and Culture
  • Explore New Experiences
  • Nourish Your Health and Well-being
  • Support Climate Resilience.

Events were in-park, virtual, or a hybrid of the two, to reach the maximum number of people.

California State Parks Week was made possible through partnerships with: Save the Redwoods League, Parks California, and the California State Parks Foundation.

Our leadership team consisted of:

  • Armando Quintero, Director of California State Parks
  • Kindley Walsh Lawlor, President and CEO of Parks California
  • Steve Mietz, President and CEO of Save the Redwoods League
  • Rachel Norton, Executive Director of California State Parks Foundation

A variety of program activities such as special events, livestreams, campfire programs, hikes, tours, and Junior Ranger programs provided education, recreation, and opportunities for acting on behalf of park lands throughout California State Parks Week 2025. Sample events ranged from “Birding by Boat at Folsom Lake SRA” to “Woven Wonders at Hearst San Simeon SHM” to “Introduction to Nature Journaling at Calaveras Big Trees SP” to a “Full Moon Stroll at Bolsa Chica SB” to “Explore Off Trail at Railtown 1897 SHP.” The events mentioned here represented the mere tip of the Parks Week iceberg! Truly, there was something for everyone to celebrate.
