Wildwood Canyon State Park In-Person Field Trip

This guided program bridges Environmental Science and California History. Students hike a short distance through an oak grove to the historical Hi-Up House site. Along the trail, students learn about adaptations in plants and wildlife, establishing a foundation for concepts like resilience and resourcefulness.

At the ranch, the focus pivots to the McCollough family’s 1930s settlement during the Great Depression. We will investigate their “human adaptations” (engineering their home, sourcing water, use of recycled materials) and compare them to the canyon’s survival strategies. The program demonstrates humanity as a resourceful part of the natural world.

This program is only available in the Spring.

Due to current staffing constraints, there is a maximum of 60 students per tour.
